On Your Team - Free Sports Sessions

Who is it for?

This activity is suitable for Men/Boys only, Non-Binary.

What is this service?

Chelmsford City Council and Essex Police created On Your Team to provide free sports sessions for men looking for a new outlet or hobby, who could benefit from emotional support and advice. The first round of sessions took place throughout the spring and were so well received that we're doing it all again for the summer.

On Your Team sessions for men will take place at Chelmsford Sport & Athletics Centre on Thursdays at 8pm, from 13 July until 31 August. Sessions are open to all men (over 18), and will see our volunteers act as coaches; organising attendees and refereeing/leading games, as well as being available to offer emotional support and advice.

What to expect from On Your Team
These aren’t therapy sessions, rather an opportunity to build connections and create a support system of your own – all while playing a bit of footy or having a go at badminton. On Your Team encourages members to both ask for and offer support, with the hope that you will become each other’s teammates in more ways than one.

Mental health is still a tricky topic for many to tackle, with men especially struggling to open up to friends and loved ones. Recent national research also shows that women aged 16 to 24 are more likely than any demographic to feel lonely.

Whether you feel unable to share with friends or family, or don’t have a support system around you, On Your Team is here to listen if you want to talk.

There will never be any pressure to tell-all, nor to be man of the match or Lioness-level! The coaches will mix up the sports based on what everyone feels like playing.
