Wilderness Foundation UK

The wilderness foundation educates a wide audience, particularly young people, about the value of wild native and natural landscapes, creating stewardships into the future. They work extensively in native based settings, working on the personal, social and environmental outcomes that come from experience of the outdoors with a focus on healthy biodiversity and people. At the Wilderness Foundation we have a long history of holistic, early intervention work, supporting vulnerable groups and individual clients with the healing power of nature and the outdoors. Our Brave Futures programme, funded initially by The National Lottery Community Fund, and now continued through Essex County Council accommodates both Adults (age 20+) and Children (age 7-12), from a wide range of referral pathways. The details of our two new 2021 cohorts are listed below with dates of a further four to be announced later in the year. Please note this programme is for people in Essex only and places will be offered on first-come-first-served basis while late referrals will be put on waiting list. With our team of expert outdoor group therapists, we have a style of working that offers therapy, tools and strategies for managing trauma, grief, relationships, boundaries, self-care, communication and emotional control, mixed with a range of activities. Activities are varied and include learning bushcraft, camp cooking, walking, foraging, nature art and craft work – as well as fun and games.
