The Melbourne Project

About

The aims and objectives of our project are to identify social needs within the estates of Melbourne/Boarded Barns and to respond to them in practical and immediate ways, in collaboration with people in the local community. Recent studies done by the local authorities have identified the particular estate where we live and work as a pocket of deprivation in an otherwise quite affluent town. Our area is a priority area for the local authority in its current plan, as these estates fall into the bottom 10% most deprived wards in Essex.
We live and work at the heart of this community alongside local people and we collaborate with them to take initiatives to meet particular needs. We are perhaps ‘unique’ in that we live on the estate in an ex-council house and our work springs from being part of the local life and its needs.
