Flutter - Bringing a Little Brightness to Kidney Cancer Patients

About

Flutter provides, at no cost, care packs called Butterfly Bags. Each care pack has been beautifully and lovingly sewn by our volunteer Sewing Bees, all of whom reside within Mid Essex.
Each Butterfly Bag care pack is filled with quality branded products. They contain a selection of toiletries, lip balm, tissues, wet wipes, eye mask, ear plugs, cosy bed socks, toothbrush and toothpaste. They also contain gin gins ginger candy and peppermint teabags to help with the effects of nausea. Added also are a crossword/sudoku book, pen and notebook. In addition, shaving gel and a razor for the male care packs, and hand and body lotion for female care packs.
The two leading charities that exist to professionally support kidney cancer patients, Kidney Cancer UK and Action Kidney Cancer endorse Flutter and freely provide literature that contains essential information for patients and their families, which is much needed following diagnosis. This information is rarely available in hospitals. This is very much welcomed by both patients, relatives and health professionals, and is included in each care pack. Flutter also provides Comfort Cushions, made by our volunteer Sewing Bees, with no zip or buttons, providing safe support following major surgery for a kidney removal. (nephrectomy).
They are ideal for use for breathing exercises in the early days following surgery, and as a cough cushion, as coughing can cause pain in the surgical site area. Following discharge, when at home, they are helpful generally for the daily rehabilitation, and particularly useful when necessary to return to hospital for further treatment, when sometimes all that is available is a rolled up hard NHS towel to lean on.
