Circle (Adult Bereavement Support)

About

Farleigh Hospice bereavement service offers a range of support, counselling and groups for aged 18 and over. Open to all residents of the mid Essex area who have suffered a bereavement.

As of November 2024, referrals from healthcare professionals are stopping: They will no longer be accepting referrals to the Circle Adult Bereavement Service from Healthcare professionals on behalf of bereaved individuals.

Self-referrals (post 3 months bereaved): Self-referrals will be accepted from bereaved individuals registered with a mid Essex GP who have been bereaved for more than three months and whose grief significantly impacts their quality of life.

Referral process: Individuals who are post 3 months bereaved can self-refer via the Farleigh Hospice website https://www.farleighhospice.org/advice-support/referrals/adult-bereavement or phone line 01245 457308. The aim is that each person referred will be assessed, in person or virtually, by a trained support worker or qualified counsellor.

Support in early bereavement: Where an individual’s bereavement occurred less than three months ago, referrals will not be accepted. Instead, individuals are encouraged to seek support from family, friends, or Farleigh’s Bereavement Help Points (BHPs) and Open Support Groups, which will expand to more venues and times. There will be an increase in information, advice and guidance on the website.

Workshops and support: Farleigh will launch a four-week educational workshop in November 2024, with one-off sessions addressing common issues like anxiety and sleep coming online in 2025. Additionally, up to six one-to-one support sessions with a trained bereavement support worker will be available.

Complex grief support: For those experiencing complex grief (about 10% of bereaved individuals), Farleigh will continue to offer one-to-one therapeutic support with qualified bereavement counsellors (up to 8 sessions) and therapeutic groups, lasting six weeks.
