The Housing Advice Team provides a service to applicants who live in or have a connection to the Chelmsford District. Services are delivered predominantly through the Council Offices although some home, off site work and emergency out of hours cover is provided. Clients can contact the service in person, by telephone and electronically. Housing advice is initially delivered by the Customer service Officers and passed to a housing advised specialist if casework is required. The main purpose of the service is to provide housing advice and assistance in order to prevent homelessness, although, where homelessness cannot be prevented, the service also carries out assessments to establish when the local authority would have a statutory duty to provide accommodation and provides advice and assistance to all to assist them to find their own accommodation.
