HOME START MID ESSEX: BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT

What is this service?

Our specialist Behaviour Support Co-ordinator works with parents/carers to support them with managing their children's behaviour and improving family relationships. Group Sessions are delivered via online groups over 6 weekly sessions, Wednesday 10 to 11.30am. We also have some availability for 1:1 sessions. Please telephone or email us for more information.

Week 1 – Introduction to the course and to meet our Behaviour Co-ordinator. Specific approaches to behaviour are discussed with an overview of the areas.
Week 2 – Emotional Regulation. How to support emotional development and regulation. Stages of crisis and how to offer support. Examples of various strategies available.
Week 3 – Sensory Processing. What is sensory processing? An introduction to the senses and examples of possible hyper and hypo behaviours in all eight sensory domains.
Week 4 – Environmental Factors, School refusal, Legislation, Reasonable Adjustments, and the SEN Code of Practice.
Week 5 – Autism. History, origins, and the spectrum of autism. Core features, assessment criteria and diagnosis.
Week 6 – Self-Care. Parental stress. Importance of self-care and ‘me time’. Finding balance. Being Judged. Q&A about anything across the six weeks.
Private One to One Support Sessions – Some families may find that One to One support sessions offer the opportunity to receive highly personalised support, applied to each individual’s specific circumstances. Families have access to the same knowledge and experience from our Behaviour Co-ordinator; however it is provided with guided advice and suitable where detailed information about the introduction of specific support strategies can be discussed confidentially. These sessions are provided on Wednesdays.
