Defence Medical Welfare Service

What is this service?

Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) is an independent charity providing medical welfare to those who have, and continue to, serve on the frontline and their families/carers. Our welfare staff provide support at the bedside throughout hospital admission and back home. We provide independent and confidential support with issues such as healthcare treatment, general wellbeing, stress and anxiety, mental health, substance misuse, financial worries, housing or homelessness concerns and employment challenges. We also have welfare projects to support the Police and the NHS.

We are here to help people:
Have better experiences of healthcare and recover from illness quicker
Feel less stressed and anxious
Access financial support to reduce the stress of money
Feel less lonely and more connected to their communities
Enjoy positive relationships with families and friends
Find and stay in safe housing
Overcome alcohol and drug misuse
Access treatment for mental health illnesses such as PTSD
Stop thoughts of taking their own life
Find meaningful employment or volunteering after service
Email us or visit our website to learn more about our services.
Please note that while many of our services are targeted at the military community and their families and carers, we have welfare projects to support the Police and NHS. If you are a professional and are interested in a programme of welfare support for employees in high trauma roles, please contact info@dmws.org.uk or sbrewster@dmws.org.uk for further support.
