Cornerstone
What is this service?
Cornerstone is a warm and welcoming café run by people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
Funded by Essex County Council and The Wolfson Foundation, Cornerstone is at the heart of a growing movement led by the Essex Recovery Foundation to make recovery visible, to build safe and supportive spaces where people feel that they belong and to challenge the outdated stigma attached to addiction.
Located on Rainsford Road in Chelmsford, next to the County Hotel, Cornerstone will offer high-quality coffee in partnership with Redemption Roasters alongside a menu of freshly prepared breakfast and lunch options, served by a dedicated and passionate team made up of people with lived experience of addiction. The café follows the success of Essex Recovery Foundation’s pop-up recovery spaces, which happen in multiple locations across Essex, alongside the annual Essex Recovery Festival which is returning to Romford on the 24th-26th July next year. The charity’s aim is to offer safe, sober and non-judgemental environments to meet people with shared experiences.
The team at Cornerstone plan to host regular community events, open to all, which include live sport screenings and wellness workshops. All proceeds from the café will go back into supporting Essex Recovery Foundation’s local initiatives.
