CHAPS

What is this service?

Who We Are:
Founded in 2000, CHAPS is a registered Charity which aims to be an advocate for Men’s Health in general and for Prostate Cancer in particular.

What We Do:
Raise awareness of men’s health issues and provide the essential information men need to know to stay healthy.
Run general health screening events in Essex and Suffolk.
Run prostate cancer screening events across the UK.
Campaign for a national prostate cancer screening service.

Why We Do It:
70,000 UK men die prematurely every year at one-and-a-half times the rate of women from a range of problems, most of which are entirely preventable. One in 5 men die before 65! The case for better provision of resources devoted to improving the health and well-being of men therefore seems indisputable. For instance, there is no organised NHS screening programme for prostate cancer although prostate cancer is the commonest major male cancer in the UK.
