African and Caribbean Books and Writers Book Group

What is this service?

Do you read books by African and/or Carribean writers? Or books about Africa and/or the Caribbean? Would you like to? Do you know where to look for them? (For example, the Heinemann African Writers series has well over 200 titles.)

If you would like to read more (both fiction and non-fiction), and discuss the books and writers with other readers, then please join our book group which currently holds its meetings on the first Saturday of each month and 3pm in Chelmsford Central Library.

We have read books about, or by authors from, the following places: Algeria, Angola, Cameroon, Dijbouti, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Luton, Barbados, Cuba, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad

Each meeting lasts approximately one hour. It is free to join and attend

If (sufficient) copies of selected books are not available through the library, AbeBooks (abebooks.co.uk) is a good and reasonably priced alternative source.

More information is available from acbwg.essex@gmail.com

Book groups are a mutual activity, in which all views are heard with respect. All those attending have the opportunity to express their views of the item read. If you are interested, please feel free to join us and see how the group functions.
